The recent release of the Wrath of the Lich King expansion for the massively popular MMORPG World of Warcraft has elevated interest in the world’s number one online RPG to unprecedented new heights.
Fortunately for those wishing for a glimpse into the world of Azeroth, Blizzard offers a ten day free trial. Those who wish to check out World of Warcraft before paying the game’s full price are free to download and install the client. The process is fairly easy.
Step 1: Create a World of Warcraft Trial Account
The first stop for those wishing to download the World of Warcraft client is the WoW Trial Signup Page. Gamers must first click the “Ten Day Free Trial” button in the center of the page.
On the following page, click the “Create Free 10-Day Account” button. A security screen on the next page requires gamers to enter a series of letters and numbers to confirm that they are human registrants and not an automated bot program.
After entering the seven digit alphanumeric code, the “World of Warcraft Account Creation” page should load. Enter all the required information, check the box next to the user agreement, and click the “Continue” button at the bottom of the page.
Next, enter a unique username and password, then select a security question and fill in the answer, then press the “Continue” button once again.
Verify that all the information is correct on the next screen, and press “Continue” one more time.
Step 2: Download the World of Warcraft Game Client
Click the download link on the following page to begin transferring the game client. Those who already have accounts can download the streaming PC client here.
Save the file to an easily-accessed location. Double click the “TryWoW” icon and accept the license agreement to begin the download.
The client download streams in the background while playing the game, so it should only take a few minutes until the game loads.
Those with slower internet connections or who prefer to download the entire game before playing can do so here.
Step 3: Log into World of Warcraft
Once the client loads, scroll down and accept both the license agreement and terms of use, then log in with the user name and password created in step 1.
Once logged in, choose a server, create a character, and take the first step into the wide world of Azeroth. The in-game help and hint system is quite robust, and should help answer any questions from this point on.
Trial Account Restrictions
Trial accounts are a great way for a new player to get their feet wet in the world of Azeroth, but to get the full experience players will need to purchase the game. There are many restrictions on trial accounts.
- Characters on trial accounts cannot surpass level 20.
- Trial characters cannot trade with other players, use the auction house, join guilds, or chat in global channels.
- Characters on trial accounts are unable to whisper players who don’t have the trial character on their friends list.
- Trial characters cannot invite other players to parties.
